With great satisfaction we have seen on the website of Devex as our CTO, appears in a list among the 7 social media savvy ICT4D professionals. A pleasant surprise to share the stage with others prominent gurus with a long and splendid career in ICT for development. We understand this, as a recognition of a career that has led him to share projects and illusions with the ICTFuture team.
Because technologies by themselves, are empty of content. Technologies must fulfill a purpose, and take their meaning when applied to something. Some people use technology for automation, others have an eye on doing business and there are those who use them as a tool for access to knowledge sources. There are many possible applications.
At ICTFuture have always understood technology as a means to improve the lives of people. A tool that can help to make a difference in people's lives. A supplement that helps to make a leap in the direction that everyone wants and to enhance the common good. For that reason we meet a team that share a vision of society where equality, respect for cultural and gender, or application of technologies, is focused on the social, economic, personal and cultural development of the people. And we like to be known for that and get recognized for these approaches.
This recognition fills us with pride and commits us as a team to continue working to build fairer and more cohesive societies. Thanks Devex.

At ICTFuture we are fortunate to have partners and collaborators who share our passion for listening to the end users and have the ability to invent what these users are able to imagine.
When developers and technicians of Genaker began to develop differential systems of communication for public safety groups (Police, Fire Brigade, Civil Defence), little imagined that would end up being pioneered on "Wearables Devices" and the "Internet of Things". Its work was focused on secure, confidential and effective communications, with convergence services (calls, e-mail, PTT) in a single device, and integrating PMR and Trunking networks with cell phones and Smartphones.
But first responders agents didn't have solved the basic needs of their service. There are situations where the ball have to go against the clock, and that often mean taking big risks. And in times like these, you can not be manipulating devices: technology must take a proactive role.
Thus, the Firemen did not want to risk concentrations of gas or to explosions in their interventions. So, gas sensors were integrated inside firemen jackets that, through the system of telecommunication used, report on dangerous situations in real time. Those sensors detect up to eight different types of gases and command may decide to evacuate the intervention teams, or the same firemen can retire on time. In addition, also by firemen request, it was designed an in-sleeves emergency button. By clicking the button, it warned that a firefighter is in danger and mark his location on a dispacher with an alarm signal.
With the Police it was worked with a communication system permanent "base-to-agent" in order to monitor and track patrol rounds. But the agents asked for an easy way to request reinforcements or to be helped if they seen endangered their physical integrity. So, in addition to the alert button, every policeman were endowed with a sensor of "fallen man" that automatically activates a protocol that enables confirm or deny the alarm and automatically send care if needed.
These wearable technologies never work alone. We always find a communications component which is done via available networks. This is even more critical when we are talking about first responders systems and public protection services. In this way, designs must be able to work with mobile networks, wireless networks, trunking and pmr networks, etc., and, if necessary, also with IoT and M2M communication networks. And should be note that geolocation is crucial, so the dispachers and control centers are critical elements for the proper functioning in real-time of these wearables in these critical environments.
It is very gratifying to see how technology brings more security to public employees and that this translates into better response to incidents which often can save lives and avoid greater evils. And is an immense pleasure to have partners of this technical level with this high grade of commitment with the objectives of the projects.
Collaborating together for a better future.

If we want to create and innovate to transform the future, we must be aware that technology is only a tool. Does not solve anything for itself. Just adding technology to a problem or an off-line process doesn't resolve anything.
First we must identify and refine the problem or the challenge to solve. If it's not specified, we can not attack it. And we have to do it with people and in the territory where we face it.
We also need to involve these people in finding solutions and alternatives. Not only as part of the strategy, but seeking a change in their behavior. People need a reason to act and we must help finding inspiration for everyone.
When we know what we are facing, with whom we do it, and for what purpose we do it, we will find a way to apply technology to add value to what we do. But then the technology will choose us and not vice versa.
So, let's put the focus on the challenges, people and purpose. Don't be worried about the type of tecnology. It will come to us, at last.
