With great satisfaction we have seen on the website of Devex as our CTO, appears in a list among the 7 social media savvy ICT4D professionals. A pleasant surprise to share the stage with others prominent gurus with a long and splendid career in ICT for development. We understand this, as a recognition of a career that has led him to share projects and illusions with the ICTFuture team.
Because technologies by themselves, are empty of content. Technologies must fulfill a purpose, and take their meaning when applied to something. Some people use technology for automation, others have an eye on doing business and there are those who use them as a tool for access to knowledge sources. There are many possible applications.
At ICTFuture have always understood technology as a means to improve the lives of people. A tool that can help to make a difference in people's lives. A supplement that helps to make a leap in the direction that everyone wants and to enhance the common good. For that reason we meet a team that share a vision of society where equality, respect for cultural and gender, or application of technologies, is focused on the social, economic, personal and cultural development of the people. And we like to be known for that and get recognized for these approaches.
This recognition fills us with pride and commits us as a team to continue working to build fairer and more cohesive societies. Thanks Devex.

If we want to create and innovate to transform the future, we must be aware that technology is only a tool. Does not solve anything for itself. Just adding technology to a problem or an off-line process doesn't resolve anything.
First we must identify and refine the problem or the challenge to solve. If it's not specified, we can not attack it. And we have to do it with people and in the territory where we face it.
We also need to involve these people in finding solutions and alternatives. Not only as part of the strategy, but seeking a change in their behavior. People need a reason to act and we must help finding inspiration for everyone.
When we know what we are facing, with whom we do it, and for what purpose we do it, we will find a way to apply technology to add value to what we do. But then the technology will choose us and not vice versa.
So, let's put the focus on the challenges, people and purpose. Don't be worried about the type of tecnology. It will come to us, at last.

Internet is transforming the daily life of millions of people. It has created new forms of social interaction, associations and activities that comes from Internet, but extends beyond the network.
Because beyond its playful aspect and business, with its emergence, the Internet has facilitated and enhanced political revolutions, has changed the economy, and has made the world smaller and next. Endless possibilities for the majority of the population.
But precisely the minority that has gaps and constraints in connectivity, or simply this part of humanity that is disconnected from the Internet, is the one that brings together social classes and living standards of the underprivileged. That is a bad sign, since, starting from a situation of inequality, the technology brings the growth of the gap between people and the difference increases.
Attacking the first issue of access to the Internet (availability of the technology and the service) has to do with the inability to get the technology to certain parts of the world. Very often for lack of coverage of telecommunications, and also for the need of electrical grids.
Until recently, this has been a barrier due to the lack of professional technology available or by its high cost. Today, however, there are mature technologies in the market that brings Internet to any corner of the planet, or that launches data processing centers there where required. Even where there is no coverage or where power grid doesn't exist. With remotely manageable and fully self-sustaining systems. Deployed in a ridiculous time.
The connectivity of the disconnected people is a problem of funding. If a government, a company or a community has access to financial resources, the Internet can add the disconnected people. But this is just the first step. Note that there are other disconnections, like abilities to use the technology or the capability for economic sustainability of the service. Therefore, the problem of the digital divide always should be evaluated holistically. Otherwise, even though putting all the technology, a large part of humanity will continue disconnected.
